The example reported in Fig. 1 shows the effect of intrusive and transversal loads on a cylindrical smooth implant.
Different mechnical properties are assumed for the cortical and trabecular bone. Different values of the Young's modulus are assumed also for the regions of bone around the implant. In particular, the Young's modulus in the transition region between implant and cortical bone is set at 5.0 GPa and at 1.5 GPa in the transition region between implant and trabecular bone. Loading is assumed according to average data reported in literature and is a combination of a 200 N intrusive force and a 20 N transversal force. The cortical thickness is 1.5 mm.
The magnitude displacement field is depicted (the arrows shows the direction and magnitude of the intrusive and transversal forces) on a transversal section of the mandible, showing the transfersal effects of the load.
