This example shows the mechanical state of the thin bone tissue layer surrounding a threaded cylindrical implant and directly interacting with the thread. A limit condition of detachment between bone and implant is considered.
Different mechanical properties are assumed for cortical and trabecular bone. A different value of the Young's modulus is assumed also for the periimplant bone region and set at 1.5 GPa. A vertical intrusive load of 200 N is applied to the implant.
Fig. 1 shows the field of the maximum compressive stress, while Fig. 2 shows the maximum tensile stress. Only the periimplant region of bone is visualised. The analysis makes it possible to appreciate the region of bone that are affected by the indentation of the implant thread.
