This example shows the different response of a cylindrical threaded implant as a function of the cortical upper thickness.
The two models depicted have the same elastic constants and loading conditions. The model of Fig. 1 has a cortical thickness of 2 mm, while the model of Fig. 2 has a cortical thickness of 1 mm. Different values of the Young's modulus are assumed also for the different regions of bone around the implant. In particular the Young's modulus in the transition region between implant and cortical bone, is set at 5.0 GPa and the Young's modulus in the transition region between implant and trabecular bone is set at 1.5 GPa.
An intrusive load of 200 N is applied.
The magnitude displacement fields are shown for the two cases analized.
