FEPPD elections for President and Council took place on the 2nd of June 2007.

At their Annual General Meeting in Brussels (1st and 2nd of June 2007), the European and international organization of independent dental technicians and laboratory owners (FEPPD), representing 23 national members federations, elected a new President and Council for the next 3 years (2007-2010).

Die Wahl des Präsidenten und des Vorstandes der FEPPD fand am 2. Juni 2007 statt.

Bei seiner Jahreshauptversammlung in Brüssel (1. und 2. Juni 2007), wählte der europäische Dachverband des Zahntechnikerhandwerks (FEPPD), bestehend aus 23 Mitgliedsverbänden, einen neuen Präsidenten sowie einen neuen Vorstand für die nächsten drei Jahre (2007-2010).

Les élections de FEPPD du président et du Conseil ont eu lieu sur le 2ème juin 2007.

Lors de leur assemblée générale annuelle à Bruxelles (1 et 2 juin 2007),
l'organisation européenne et internationale des patrons prothésistes dentaires (FEPPD), représentant 23 fédérations nationales, a élu un nouveau président et un nouveau conseil d' administration pour les 3 années à venir (2007-2010).

Jürgen Schwichtenberg (Germany) was re-elected as President of the FEPPD. Gérard Corsi (France) former Chairman of the Political Working Group was elected as Vice-President, Norwegian Torstein Wremer was re-elected as Treasurer and Anna-Liisa Tuominen from Finland became the new Secretary-General. Richard Scotolati (Switzerland), Hana Dohálová (Slovakia) and Reinhilde Roumans-Wahlen (Belgium) were also elected as council members and will be responsible for the political working group, the technical working group and the DOSAM-committee (education and vocational training).

The new composed board includes for the first time in the history of FEPPD female board members as well as a representative from one of the former east European countries (Ms Hana Dohálová from Slovakia). The newly elected board will need to face a lot of important challenges that the dental sector in general and dental technicians in particular will meet within the near future.

Future policy of the FEPPD includes:
· to inform its members the dental devices market within the EU and the occurring global changes;
· the implementation of the new medical devices directive;
· the harmonization of EU-legislation;
· to provide the patients with information about their devices (improve transparency and safety);
· improving the quality of education and training for dental technicians in all EU-member states.

During the AGM dinner on Friday the 1st of June Greger Oxhammar, lawyer and CEO of the Swedish national dental technicians organization (Dentallaboratoriernas Riksförening), received the FEPPD Award 2007 for achievement in dental technology. FEPPD wanted to reward him for his long-term commitment for independent dental technicians in Sweden and in Europe.

Jürgen Schwichtenberg (Deutschland) wurde zum Präsidenten der FEPPD wiedergewählt. Gérard Corsi (Frankreich), ehemals Vorsitzender der Politischen Arbeitsgruppe, wurde Vizepräsident, der Norweger Torstein Wremer wurde zum Schatzmeister wiedergewählt und Anna-Liisa Tuominen aus Finland wurde neue Generalsekretärin. Richard Scotolati (Schweiz), Hana Dohálová (Slowakei) und Reinhilde Roumans-Wahlen (Belgien) wurden ebenfalls in den Vorstand gewählt und werden für die Politische Arbeitsgruppe, die Technische Arbeitsgruppe und das DOSAM-Komitee (Bildung und Ausbildung) zuständig sein.

Im neu zusammengesetzten Vorstand sitzen zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der FEPPD weibliche Kandidaten sowie eine Vertreterin der osteuropäischen Staaten (Frau Hana Dohálová aus der Slowakei). Der neu gewählte Vorstand wird mit vielen wichtigen Herausforderungen konfrontiert, denen sich die Zahnindustrie im Allgemeinen und besonders Zahntechniker in naher Zukunft stellen müssen.

Die zukünftige Politik der FEPPD beinhaltet:
· die Mitglieder über den europäischen Markt für zahntechnische Produkte und globale Veränderungen zu informieren;
· die Umsetzung der neuen Medizinprodukterichtlinie;
· die Harmonisierung der EU-Gesetzgebung;
· den Patienten Informationen über ihre Produkte zu geben (Transparenz und Sicherheit verbessern);
· die Qualität der Bildung und Ausbildung für Zahntechniker in allen EU-Mitgliedsstaaten zu verbessern.

Beim Diner der Jahreshauptversammlung am Freitag, dem 1. Juni, wurde Greger Oxhammar, Anwalt und Geschäftsführer des schwedischen Zahntechnikerverbandes (Dentallaboratoriernas Riksförening), der FEPPD-Award 2007 für seinen Erfolg in der Zahntechnik verliehen. Die FEPPD wollte ihn für sein langjähriges Engagement für selbständige Zahntechniker in Schweden und Europa auszeichnen.

Jürgen Schwichtenberg (Allemagne) a été réélu comme président du FEPPD. L'ancien Président du groupe de travail politique, Gérard Corsi (France), a été élu comme vice-président, le norvégien Torstein Wremer a été réélu comme trésorier et Anna-Liisa Tuominen de Finlande est devenue la nouvelle secrétaire générale. Richard Scotolati (Suisse), Hana Dohálová (Slovaquie) et Reinhilde Roumans-Wahlen (Belgique) ont été élus comme membres de conseil et seront responsables respectivement pour le groupe de travail politique, le groupe de travail technique et le comité DOSAM (éducation et formation professionnelle). Pour la première fois le conseil d'administration de la FEPPD comprend des membres féminins et une représentante d'un des anciens pays de l'Europe de l'est (M. Hana Dohálová de Slovaquie). Le conseil devra relever beaucoup de défis importants que le secteur dentaire en général, et les patrons prothésistes dentaires en particulier rencontrera dans un futur proche.

La future politique du FEPPD inclut:
· L'information des membres au sujet du marché des dispositifs dentaires dans l'UE et les
  changements globaux;
· l'exécution de la nouvelle directive médicale de dispositifs;
· l'harmonisation de la législation au niveau Européenne;
· L'information des patients sur leurs dispositifs afin d'améliorer la transparence et la sécurité;
· améliorer la qualité de l'éducation et la formation pour les techniciens dentaires dans tous les
  états de l'UE.

Pendant le dîner annuel des membres de FEPPD qui a eu lieu vendredi le 1er juin Greger Oxhammar, Directeur de l'organisation nationale suédoise de techniciens dentaires (Dentallaboratoriernas Riksförening), a reçu le FEPPD Award 2007, pour l'accomplissement en technologie dentaire. FEPPD a voulu le récompenser pour son engagement à long terme pour les techniciens dentaires indépendants en Suède et en Europe.

The FEPPD Futureday 2006 took place in Brussels on 28 October at the Silken Berlaymont Hotel, close the the European Commission building in the European Quarter of Brussels.

Amongst the many issues which were discussed was a resolution, tabled by the Dutch Federation, that insurance companies should be discouraged from offering financial incentives to dentists to use low cost products and services from overseas, especially without the knowledge and prior consent of the patient.

FEPPD Futureday delegates on all sides were in agreement that the best defense against the influx of low cost products and services from overseas is to adopt and maintain high standards throughout the industry.

The UEAMPE health care forum recently asked us for input and co-operation to establish a European quality management system for custom-made medical devices manufacturers.  We will ask all member federations present, who already have a quality system in place, to explain to us briefly their current system.  This debate will take place in the morning and will be open for all FEPPD members.

During the afternoon session we will invite the other European federations of CMMD and ask them to briefly present their systems or proposals regarding a generic quality system.

Dr. Karine Iffour (NORMAPME) will support the debate by explaining the procedure of European standardization.

ICB-DENT Saturday 11.06.2005 TORINO

  Over the past two and a half years, a European consortium has been working on the creation of a website, containing education and training material for dental technicians.  FEPPD has taken responsibility to provide input on the dental technician profession and to contribute to the disseminaton of the project. 

The aim of this European funded project is to produce on-line learning material for dental technicians and dental students, specifically in the area of prosthetic dentistry. The project partners are the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the University of Catalunya in Barcelona, the University of Padova, the University of Wales in Cardiff, Dental Partner Group (the Netherlands) and National Physics Laboratory (UK).  Subcontracters are Custom8 and FEPPD.

The final result of the project is a website containing course material in the area of implants and prosthetic dentistry.  The main issues available are:

• Materials for prosthetic dentistry and implant dentistry
• Clinical practice basic information
• Biomechanics in implant dentistry
• Manufacturing aspects

The use of advanced methods and, in particular, of computer aided approaches is integral part of the course material.

ITF

During the IDS 2005 the VDZI, (Verband Deutscher Zahntechniker Innungen), offered FEPPD the opportunity to organise its 1st International Technicians Forum. Topic of the first ITF was quality by qualification and quality management systems for SME’s in Europe.

At the event, France, the UK and Scandinavia were invited to explain their respective national situation, the legal regulations and realization of quality management systems.

Elected as the new FEPPD President was Jürgen Schwichtenberg (Germany), the former Vice-President of our organisation. David Smith (UK), the former President of the FEPPD, and Paolo Battaglia (Italy) were elected as Vice-Presidents. The joint candidate from the Scandinavian countries, Torstein Wremer (Norway) was elected as new Treasurer and Michel Rey (Switzerland) was re-elected as Secretary General.

The Bulgarian Dental Technician Union joint the FEPPD as a new corresponding member and the former corresponding members of the FEPPD Hungary, Slovakia and the Chech Republic joint the FEPPD as full members.

Important themes at the AGM were next to the annual reports from the member federations also competition from overseas, standardisation of education and VAT-systems within the EU and a possible restructuring of the FEPPD.

Present FEPPD Council members, David Smith, Jürgen Schwichtenberg and Giovanni Christoforetti, spoke about the importance of an organised European presence of dental technicians.

This should help to improve the standing of dental technicians and their interest before the European Institutions. The themes touched were: Imports from countries outside the European Union, standardisation of dental technician education and the Eudamed database.
